In a Conference on sustainable sewerage held in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Zhao Baojiang, chairman of the China association of city planning said that, at the end of 2005, 278 cities across the country had no sewage treatment facilities, including eight with a population of more than 500,000.
