Heartburn Discussion

Over the years, I've had a good number of alkaline water users give happy reports on results for heartburn. Here's a video on heartburn itself that discusses how to work out if heartburn remedoies actually work.

No, it doesn't include alkaline water.

Amazing, just amazing!

A Missouri professor took several types of chicken heart cells and 3D printed them into large sheets with cell-friendly gel. The cells took over from there, sorting themselves into working order. Then they began beating, just as a heart would.

Fluoride Warrior hangs up his guns

Mister Robert Stewart, the 81-year-old widower who has has been waging a single handed campaign to persuade his home city to remove fluoride from the city’s drinking water supply, says he’s giving up the fight.

On two occasions, Stewart has approached the City Council to take action on removing fluoride from the city’s water supply, most recently during its last meeting.

“Is there no one here who will stand up for the citizens of Rolla in this regard?” Stewart asked City Council members. “This fluoride is poisoning our water and our children.”

Stewart, almost single-handedly, has been crusading to have the city remove fluoride from its drinking supply.

Here's his story

Chronic kidney disease and Oxygen

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine have discovered how low-oxygen conditions can worsen chronic kidney disease (CKD). The key player is a protein called hypoxia-inducible-factor (HIF-1) that, as its name suggests, is active when the kidney does not get enough oxygen, a condition known as hypoxia.

CKD afflicts 20 million Americans who have hypertension, atherosclerosis, diabetes, and other conditions. The kidney has less oxygen reserves than other organs to start, and CKD is associated with less capillary blood flow, reducing oxygenation even further. As CKD progresses, kidneys become full of fibrous tissue and cannot filter wastes out of blood or regulate body salt. Eventually kidney dialysis, a form of renal replacement therapy, may be needed to carry out these processes. Ultimately, the clinical goal is to optimize treatment to halt or delay the progression of CKD by better understanding its molecular underpinnings.

Ian: maybe I'm simple.. but if oxygen levels in tissue depend on oxygenated blood, doesn't that mean that their blood is too acidic? After all, acidic blood holds far, far less oxygen that alkaline balanced blood. Just asking.

Fluoride Ping Pong: Expert vs. Expert

Once again, we see a report coming out saying that there is no ill effect of adding fluoride to water supplies. And again, we see reports after report saying the opposite. Here's the latest report in the ping pong argumant for and against fluoride.

Here's what Dr Sherry Rogers has to say:

"Flouride is a good example of a toxin that is deliberately added to water. Flouride is a halogen that is a potent enzyme inhibitor that is even used as a preservative and anticoagulant for biological specimens. It is known to cause excessive calcification not only in arteries but joints and ligaments, and contributes to many forms of cancer and osteoporosis.

"For 11 years between1986 and 1997 a national survey of 39,000 United States schoolchildren revealed no statistically significant differences in tooth decay between children drinking flouridated versus non-flouridated water. In addition it was found that instead of building strong health teeth, flouride damaged brain enzymes and lowered IQs (Zhao, Foulkes). And we certainly have an epidemic of learning disabilities to back that up.

"Flouride has also been linked to behavioural disorders, birth defects, flu-like symptoms and arthritis. Flouride acts much like a heavy metal (even though it's a halogen) in damaging enzymes. Also once in the cell membrane, it can cause malfunctions as well as damage hormone receptors and other regulatory sites. It that were not enough, flouride has also caused an increase in bone cancers as well as hip fractures from skeletal fluorosis (accumulation of flouride in the bone). By displacing minerals that belong in the bone, fluoride leads to a weakening of bone and an eventual increase in fractures.

"Death rates are also higher in flouridated communities versus those living on well water (Yiamouyiannis, Hoover, Cohn). In one study by the United States National Cancer Institute, there was a 70% increase in osteosarcoma (bone cancer) among young men in fluoridated areas of Iowa and Seattle versus a 4% lower incidence among young men in non-fluoridated areas in the same states. In regions of New Jersey, the incidence of osteosarcoma was 3-7times higher in fluoridated areas. Remember osteosarcoma is a rare type of bone cancer, so when you see a startling increase, you know it has to be something pretty pervasive in the environment that many people are exposed to.

"Studies also show that fluoride can damage the heart and other organs like the brain, kidneys and hormones. It interferes with the metabolism of testosterone (contributing to the Viagra epidemic, ushered in by physicians writing over 100,000 prescriptions a week). Many researchers are particularly concerned about fluoride in infant formulas, baby foods, juices, tooth treatments, and prescriptions from their pediatricians, in addition to being deliberately added to water. It turns out that children with immature detoxification systems are getting a higher dose than most adults, and they are less able to handle it. And if you want to boost your fluoride intake fast, begin Prozac, the prescription anti-depressant that contains three fluoride molecules per molecule of fluoxetine."

Tasmania; A Dangerous Isle for Water Drinkers

In Tasmania, Australia over one-third of the drinking water supplies are unsafe for consumption according to the national guidelines.
Read the report here

Got Good Water Flow? If not you're likely to get a tummy bug!

Researchers in Norway have conducted an epidemiological study suggesting that repairs and maintenance works in water distribution systems are associated with increased risks of gastroenteritis among residents in the area affected by the work.

Individuals residing in homes affected by low water pressure events caused by planned or unplanned shut down of the water supply, had double the risk of experiencing gastroenteritis during the following week.

The fundings of the study once again raise questions about the role of tap water as a contributor to endemic gastrointestinal disease in developed nations.

Holy Places, Holy Water

I have already heard reports that some of the healing springs around the world are distinctly alkaline or microclustered. Today I read a report by a pilgrim to the Haj, the muslims' holy destination, when this paragraph leapt out at me:

"We stopped for a cup or two of water from the well of Zamzam, to which many pilgrims attribute miraculous healing powers. The water flows from taps all over the mosque complex and servers ensure steady supplies of disposable plastic cups. The taste was distinctly alkaline. Many pilgrims came with large plastic containers, even of a gallon or more, and filled them to take home as gifts for their friends. A Nigerian pilgrim told me that a recent scientific study proved its miraculous powers."

Change your life with water next year

I received a copy of this email today. It just shows what can happen with alkaline water and a little business sense.

"This has been an amazing year, especially the last 5 & 1/2 months since joining Ionways.

My life has been profoundly changed, both from the health giving aspects of the water produced by our amazing ionizers, and from a financial perspective! I have never been in a more profitable business in my over 35 years of direct/networking sales!

Here is a quote from a dear friend and Ionways Associate, Lou Paolo, who has been a co-owner of a health food store in Oregon City. "A few months ago, a friend of mine brought a couple of gallons of the best tasting water we (and our customers) had ever tasted, so we bought a machine, put it in the store and started selling machines and water.

This water is amazing! Our customers started telling us about how much better they felt and they were loving the water so much, that to date we've sold 24 machines and made $12,000.00 profit, direct and residual. We also sold 1387 gallons of water @ $3.00 a gallon, $4,161. all profit!
This water put our store on the map from Vancouver Washington to Albany, Oregon not to mention pulling our store out of a hole when we most needed it."

I don't know about you, but I just couldn't BE anymore excited than I am as I hear about this kind of success with this amazing equipment! Thank you, and many others who have made this kind of success possible!! Wherever you are today, I trust that you are having a blessed holiday season and are enjoying the "reason for the season." The model is "giving" and may you be so blessed that you can give THE most important gift...you're true and honest self to people that may need an encouraging word or smile or whatever. Also remember that the most important things in life AREN'T things! You are special to me and that is why you are receiving this little message. More later. All the best! Rich

Older people are more likely....

Ya gotta laugh. Brett, our despatch manager, handed me an article from the newspaper about older people becoming dehydrated. Wanting to know more, I Googled the first few words of the report, 'Older people are more likely".
Well, it seems oldies are more likelty to fo a lot of things, according to google. A quick scan of the first page of results told me that..

  • Older people who live alone more likely to be unhappy,

  • Older people more likely to respond to Internet marketers,

  • Older people are far more likely to successfully quit smoking,

  • Climbers over age 60 are three times more likely to die,

  • Given a misleading cue, adults over age 64 were 10 times more likely than younger ... To understand why older people are more easily misled,

  • Older people are biologically and medically more vulnerable to infection,
    especially
women. But they are more likely to escape the HIV/AIDS diagnosis,

  • In older people, decline of cognitive function is more likely than improvement.
..and finally the article I was seeking, which is here and says:

"Older people are more likely than others to become dehydrated because their brain underestimates how much water the body needs to remain healthy, Australian researchers say.

Scientists from the Howard Florey Institute, in Melbourne, found that a part of the brain that predicts how much water a person needs switches off in older people before their body has been adequately replenished.

When a person is thirsty the mid-cingulate cortex, which is about one cubic centimetre in size, increases activity, prompting the body's thirst response. This switches off when the body's need for water is satisfied.

Researchers gave salty water to 12 men aged 65 to 74 years, and 10 men aged 21 to 30, to make them thirsty. The men were then allowed to drink as much water as they wanted. Brain response was measured using positron emission tomography.

Both groups had the same level of thirst but the older group drank less than half as much water before activity in the mid-cingulate cortex was switched off, says the study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The younger men drank an average of 350 millilitres and the older men drank an average of 150 millilitres before their thirst mechanism was turned off.

Dr Michael Farrell, a senior research officer in the institute's neuroimaging group, said decreased brain activity was part of the ageing process, and older people could no longer trust thirst sensation. "Adults should drink about eight glasses of water per day to prevent dehydration and physically active people may need to drink more," he said."

Ian: I remember years ago we took up a voluntary position of driving elders to medical appontments. I cannot remember one who drank water. Tea, yes, but tea just doesn't hydrate like good old water. I am very grateful for my super water. People ask me my age and are always surprised when I say sixty one.

Horses for Courses

Here in Oz we're about to test a Jupiter Science water alkalizer with a large racing stable. This follows excellent results with dairy cattle in Japan and the US, and chicken farms in South Korea.

You may not be aware that good old sodium bicarbonate was declared an illegal stimulant in the racing industry because of the excellent job it did ridding horses of post-exercise cramps.

I'll report the results here as they come to hand, but it begs the obvious; if it's good for racehorses, cows and chickens, why hasn't every athlete in Australia got their own water alkalizer, not just our world champ Triathlete Felicity Abrams and Olympian Fiona Taylor?

An Aussie Special

For Aussies reading this blog, holidays in the sun mean water bottles, and water bottles mean having to contribute to global warming by purchasing water from Fiji in plastic bottles from China, made from oil from Iraq.

And even then, it tastes like white paper and costs more than petroleum!

Grab a special; the ION LIFE Waterman.

Stick it under the nearest tap for filtered, energized and alkaline mineral water. It'll brew up 600ml in about 3 or 4 minutes. And to make it worthwhile, there's a special on;
The Waterman, 3 spare filters, and a bottle of AlkaBalance drops, all for AU$140. You save $35! (If you have any left to save after Christmas shopping that is!)

I've decided to send all of my readers this Christmas game. (It needs sound and Microsoft Excel). I don't know about you but for me there is always an increase in emotional energy around Christmas.

I've instructed our trusty team to be extra empathic to all those poor souls (including myself) feeling the heat of Christmas shopping and Christmas event organisation.

But my heart goes out particularly to those among us who don't have a big shopping list or a party to organize because they are alone.

To you out there,

Nudists in Hot Water

The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health issued a boil-water advisory for the Sun Island Resort, a nudist resort in El Cajon, after tests confirmed the presence of total coliform bacteria in the water.

DEH officials said that the boil-water water alert will remain in effect until the distribution system has been disinfected and additional tests confirm the absence of bacteria in the water supply.

Ian: I sure hope they brought aprons! Boiling water is a dangerous job!

The Politics of Cancer Drugs

Last week, the Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee (ODAC) of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted 5-4 to recommend against approving the drug Avastin for first-line use in advanced breast cancer. In clinical trials to date, Avastin has not been shown to extend overall survival or to improve quality of life for women with metastatic breast cancer.

Sounds reasonable, doesn't it. Good decision making, based on good science.

However, the FDA is not bound to heed the advice of ODAC, and Avastin’s manufacturer, Genentech, will be lobbying hard to persuade FDA to grant approval in spite of the ruling.

Who'd Want to be a Doctor in the US?

A man taking several prescription drugs passes out at the wheel, drives off the road and hits and kills a 10-year-old boy. Can the boy’s mother sue the doctor who prescribed the drugs?
Yes, Massachusetts’s Supreme Judicial Court ruled yesterday, the Boston Globe reports. The mother’s lawyers allege that the doc failed to warn his patient about the side effects of the medications and the potential danger of driving while taking them.

Clean Mouth, Good Teeth; from Joyce

Hello Ian,

By the way have you ever heard of rinsing your mouth with sunflower oil, and keeping the oil in your mouth for at least 20 minutes in order to remove all the bad micro organisms from your mouth? I have done this rinsing now for 2 years and managed to stay away from the dentist, and kept my health at bay.

Joyce, I have heard of that but I'm guessing that rinsing your mouth with the antibacterial acid water from an Ionizer as we do at home tasted a lot better!

Green Companies Scorecard

Greenpeace has released its “Guide to Greener Electronics” for 2007. Here is its ranking of the world’s biggest electronic gizmo producers:

7.7/10 Sony Ericsson: Improved reporting of mobile phone recycling levels and a move towards new PVC devices sees Sony Ericsson move into number one spot.

7.7/10 Samsung: A big improver, with more products free of the worst toxic chemicals. Loses points for not further extending programs for taking back redundant products.

7.3/10 Sony: Extending the range of products free of toxic PVC and improved reporting on recycling and takeback, especially in the US.

7.3/10 Dell: Unchanged since 2006, still no products on the market without the worst chemicals.

7.3/10 Lenovo: Unchanged since 2006, still no products on the market without the worst chemicals.

7/10 Toshiba: A much improved performance on toxic chemicals but lobbies in the US for policies limiting the obligation to takeback and recycle redundant products.

7/10 LGE: Unchanged since 2006, needs better takeback for products other than phones.

7/10 Fujitsu-Siemens: Unchanged since 2006, needs to implement toxic elimination timelines, better takeback across its products and reporting of amounts recycled.

6.7/10 Nokia: A steep fall in 2007 from its top spot in 2006. Good on reducing toxic chemicals but points were deducted for poor communication and implementation of its takeback and recycling program in Thailand, Russia and Argentina.

6.7/10 HP: Has moved to provide timelines for eliminating the worst toxic chemicals, but not for all products. Needs to improve takeback coverage.

6/10 Apple: Slightly improved with new iMacs and some iPods reducing the use of toxic chemicals, but its takeback program still needs more work.

5.7/10 Acer: Unchanged since 2006, needs to improve its takeback program and reporting of amounts recycled.

5/10 Panasonic: Unchanged since 2006, need better takeback coverage and reporting of amounts recycled.

5/10 Motorola: Big faller due to poor takeback and recycling practices in Philippines, Thailand and India. Still no timelines for eliminating the most harmful chemicals.

4.7/10 Sharp: Is making some progress on toxic chemicals elimination but has a poor takeback and recycling policy.

2.7/10 Microsoft: Timeline for toxic chemicals elimination by 2011 is too long and poor takeback policy and practice.

2/10 Philips: No timeline for toxic chemical elimination and zero points on e-waste policy and practice.

0/10 Nintendo: The first global brand to score zero across all criteria. No PVC and toxic chemical elimination progress or timeline and no takeback and recycling

Lead in your water?

I read an interesting study today from Ivars Jaunakais, who tested nine aerators on kitchen taps. An aerator is the fine screen device that sits on the end of your faucet and 'bubbles' the water so it won't splash.

He shook out the particles caught in the aerators' screens and tested them.
Nine out of nine aerator 'trash' samples contained LEAD.

Beware of Greeks Bearing Water

OINOFYTA, GREECE — Ten years ago the Asopos River started turning purple, and this year tests showed that it is contaminated with chromium 6.

Now residents of this small town, about 35 miles north of Athens, are wondering if the drinking water source is to blame for some recent cancer deaths.

Apparently factories have been discarding waste into the river for many years, but there was never an official warning about the water.

According to the town’s priest, the number of cancer deaths has risen 32 percent since 1989.
For years a biochemical engineer and the priest, Father Yannis, campaigned to get authorities to look into the matter.

Engineer Thanasis Panteloglou said in the story, “In the beginning, , no one was listening. Authorities were in denial.”

It's Happy Customer Week!

Another letter this week from another happy client. I've removed the product reference she is using because it's illegal to claim health therapy on some of our products.

"I started the _________ after reading about alkalizing the blood and how important it is to reverse an acidic blood state. (Everything stems from the blood. Fix the problem at its source and the health benefits will cascade down the entire body system).

I had a few health issues that needed to be addressed so I took the information I had learned and ran with it.

One major health issue I was dealing with was a ten year female condition medically known as Dysmenhorrea (extreme menstrual pain and heavy bleeding with associated diarrhea and vomiting/ & migraine headaches). In my case I had all three symptoms and they left me feeling so ill every month I had to take to my bed 1- 1 1/2 weeks out of every month. It was a misery and doctors had operated on me before but that didn't heal me. A hysterectomy was out of the question at the age of 36, I haven't had children yet and I didn't want drastic surgery anyway.

So I commenced the _____ along with ______ water. I bought 5 litre bottles for ______ water and added __________. I drank 2 litres of water with _____ every day.

That very same month I had a period that was so light and painfree I was stunned with shock. I became so excited, my prayers had been answered. I wanted to ensure that this wasn't going to be a one off occurrence or a temporary effect so Iwaited another month for my next period. I continued drinking the 2-3 litres of _____ water with the ______ every day without fail. The sure enough my period the next month was the same again. Extremely light and NO PAIN whatsoever.

NONE! ZERO! ZILCH!

No hot water bottles needed, no essential oils rubbed on my abdomen needed.
No sleepless painfilled nights.
No paracetamol.
No taking to my bed.
No vomiting.
No diarrhea.
No nausea.
No trips to the bathroom in distress.
No misery.
No suffering.
No crying.
No interference with enjoying my life.
I am a differemt woman! So incredibly overjoyed at this wonderful restoration that has occurred in my body.

Something so simple as changing the acid balance of my blood and I received instantaneous healing. And all I had to do was add _____ to every glass of water, and drink it.

Thank you so much and God bless everyone at ION LIFE for all your time and effort in creating _______ and for all your assistance over the phone answering my questions.

A special thank you to Maree;- for all the phone calls and support. it's nice to know someone cares. She is truly a lovely lady."

Profile of a Positive Person

Here's a copy of an email I received today. 'Joan''s spirit is amazing!

"Hi Ian,
"I purchased my water filter from you. I have been fighting colorectal cancer since 2001 it metastasised to my lungs. which I cleared in 2005. It then went to my brain. I had five brain tumours last year the last one was in October. I now have it in the liver and in the lungs again as well as spots in my hips and left shoulder. I have chemo every fortnight. I am going really well. No-one would ever guess what I have been through.

I am very acid although I try to do every thing I can. I eat really well. We have a restaurant so I select quality meals that are based on fighting cancer. I take Usana vitamins. I go to water aerobics twice a week, walk 1/2 hour a day, pracice yoga and mediate daily. I sleep really well and pace myself. Can you assist me with anything I may have missed?

Regards 'Joan'

Ian: Joan, I can't think of a thing more you can do. I think you are an amazing, inspiring, powerful human being!

Valerie's pH Miracle

As my readers know, Dr Robert O. Young sends me quite a few stories about alkalizing. As you also know, ION LIFE Australia also retails Tropical Traditions Virgin Organic Coconut Oil, and we get many stories from our clients about its beneficial effects.

Now here's a wonderful story by a lady who used both alkalizing and coco oil to affect major changes in her health reality. Here's the story.

Waste Water Wipes Out Town

NOKIA, FINLAND — Treated wastewater that made its way to household taps in this southern Finland town was consumed by residents for about two days before authorities detected the error, according to local reports.

It was not until after an epidemic of gastrointestinal illness was reported that authorities found an open valve allowing about 400,000 liters (105,668 gallons) of treated wastewater from the Nokia (The town, not the phone!) Sewage Treatment Plant into the public water supply.

Residents first began experiencing stomach ailments on November 28. The open valve — left open by human error, according to Nokia
(The town, not the phone!) Mayor Markku Rahikkala — was closed November 30.

According to NewsRoom Finland, the bacteria count in the water “exceeded safe levels several-hundred-fold.”

More than 1,000 people may have been infected, and about 140 were treated at the local hospital. Forty people remained hospitalized, YLE reported.

Cancer Research; A Comment

This article arrived today from the Cancer Support Association in Perth. A good if disturbing read.

I LOVE my Readers!

Here's an example of why I love doing this Blog. It's a comment from Alexander.

I was glad that you put the link, I went to Wobensym site and copied everything, to read later, and then from there to the suppliers of Wobenzyme. Because I have tinnitus since I was a kid, around 11 or 12 years old. I remember when I want to year 8 high school and feeling uncomfortable from that year, which I now understand came from the damned tinnitus, I mean, it's so embarrassing asking someone to repeat themselves and because I'm deaf and also because of the hidden Tinnitus blaring away, so I had a hard time.

Everyone thought I was slow. Really pisses me off. No one ever believed that I had tinnitus. I damaged the cilia from listening to too much KISS Unmasked tape. I love the band, but I don't love them for stuffing up my hearing.

(It was Midnight Oil for me, Alex!.. Ian)

Classical music just makes it worse. So only silence, and after years of trial and error, complete rest and good sleep helps to dampens the tinnitus. But after an hour after waking, the tinnitus just grows and grows, fueled by accidental sounds. Like a vicious cycle of hell.

Now I am glad of the link to Wobenzym. I'm very happy, I put it on the list. I just bought Vita-Mix Super TNC from Total Nutrition Centre, Australian version of US's VIta-Mix, where they agreed to hold their offer for four weeks so I can save up. This week or next week they'll send it over, and I'm gonna buy a lot of greens to make green smoothies, finally. With Alkaline water, the green revolution that I wanted is starting to happens. Next to get is the OraMD (just one bottle) and after that, the Wobenzyme 800 tablets, just in case I might needs some. After that, the shower Atopia, maybe the hose, and some filters. Yeah, I'll have to save for the Alphion filter as well. After that, Val Archer's stuff; the Excalibur Dehydrator, Sprouter kits and parts, and the hydroponic vegies. Oh well, lots of saving and patience ahead, good discipline. I achieved Alphion, now Vita-Mix, I can achieve everything else. I didn't really need the stoopid "get-rich-quick" scheme on the 'net to get the stuff I needed. Just saving up to 90 percent a fortnight is all I need to do, as fast as I can. No worries. I am looking forward to what Wobenzyme will do for my tinnitus, kick it out of my head for good. It will be fantastic to hear and not have the sound repeat itself like a echo following me around like a fart in a spacesuit! Eh. No worries,

Happy Alkalarian Christmas,

Alexander

Ian: Alex, my Tinnitus hasn't improved yet, but I am enjoying some Gluten laden treats.

Of Guppies and Ironing...

Helen Flouch began with her own ION LIFE water alkalizer last year. She dropped in to spend some time with us this week. She revealed her own Alkalarian secrets while she was here:

1. Irons get a buildup of alkaline scale as they are used. Helen tops up her iron with acid water from her Jupiter Alphion and now there’s not a trace of scale on her iron.

2. Helen’s huge fish tank was originally filled up with tap water. Every six months she lost around 20% of her Guppies. Since using ionized water to top up, her Guppies actually swim up in welcome each times she tops up, and – aquarium lovers, eat your heart out – her aquarium has NO algae growing on the glass!

What a Story!

I received this story from Stan, our Ion Life Canadian counterpart.. it's one of those stories I love to begin my day with!

“I wish I had the time to share with you in writing what I did in words with you on the phone the other day about the exciting and the at first “unbelievable” benefits I have experience. from ionized water and especially from the Jupiter ‘Melody” water ionizer.

I have never had anything affect me in such a dramatic and positive way!! Let me tell you, this is now my life’s mission! Not because I am acting on some sort of faith that it will help me in the “future” but because it has helped me NOW! I have suffered from horrible allergies resulting from “nasal polyps” (So I was told), and had to be on steroids to reduce the inflammation and congestion.

Within about a year after that I developed “high blood pressure” as a result of the steroids, so I was told and as you can imagine I had to have one drug to fix one thing then another for a problem for that etc. etc!! Talk about great marketing if you’re a “drug manufacturer”!!

Bottom Line!! I have virtually no more allergies, and what I mean by that is I can BREATHE!! Without the medication!! (No waking up in the morning hacking and spiting phlegm). My Blood pressure is NORMAL!! I forgot to mention my diagnosis of “chronic arthritis” last year in my lower back in which I became a fan of “pain killers” (try running a business in that constant state) 99% GONE!!

My daughter who is 7 years of age never drinks water, now she will insist on “Alkalized water”, it is a must for her water bottle when going to school. (Our home has experienced less frequencies of the “bug” which is generally passed on from one student to another in schools) My wife who was placed on a manic depressant prescription a few years ago but due to no insurance we stop getting it, she is experiencing elevated moods!

I can go on with the experiences related to me and my friends who I have shared this water with but I must get back to work, because now, my life’s mission is to tell others everyday, ALL DAY!! Thank you so much!! Sincerely, Glen Lyles, Orlando Florida

Dr Young's Diabetic Blood Cell Discovery

Below you will find a link for a video that was posted to "You Tube" yesterday of Dr. Robert O. Young explaining his discovery, in 1994, of a unique marker for diabetes that shows up on the red blood cells.

This marker or characteristic of white spots or targets on the red blood cells are unique to those persons who have one or all of the following symptoms and is an indicator of a pre-diabetic or diabetic condition:

1) high blood sugars
2) low blood sugars
3) anemic conditions
4) light headedness and dizziness
5) cold hands and cold feet
6) numbness or lack of feeling in the extremities
6) muddled thinking and forgetfulness
7) yeast infections
8) sugar cravings, and
9) low energy

Dr. Young explains that red blood cells with white spots, dots or targets are fermenting or ripening cells that are breaking down and releasing their sugars into the bloodstream. This is one of the major causes of an increase of blood sugar that leads to diabetes.

Dr. Young says, "just like a ripening banana with all of its diabetic black spots becoming sweeter and sweeter we can now see the same ripening or spoiling of the body cells as noted by their white spots."

"This discovery will help us better understand why blood sugars increase on a diet that is low in sugar, or when blood sugars are normal at night before going to bed and then higher in the morning when awakening for no apparent reason.
This phenomenon is known as the "Dawn Phenomenon.
We now know the cause of the "Dawn Phenomenon."

Dr. Young further state, "with this discovery we can then prevent and even reverse the condition and/or conditions of Type I and Type II diabetes by making the necessary changes in the internal environment that is causing the fermentation of the body cells - even the red blood cells."

To learn more about Dr. Young's research on diabetes read "The pH Miracle for Diabetes."

Ian: This guy is seriously making waves. His book sets out the discoveries of correlation of green alkaline diet with cessation of diabetes, complete with fully documented case studies.

Wobenzym and Gluten Intolerance

I have had quite few inquiries about my recent post on Wobenzym, a german product that claims to allay symptoms of Gluten intolerance. As most of my readers know, both Cassie and I are GI, and I have elected to be the test dummy with our first order of this enzyme.

It seems to be working. I can't lay claim to being a perfect lab rat because as GI sufferers know, once you adjust to a Gluten free diet we usually feel better anyway and don't wish to return to the pain. However, for the sake of my readers and with lashings of self sacrifice, I have subjected myself to some tests, like squaffing a luscious Hummingbird Cup Cake and having a Stella Artois beer at our son's birthday celebration, both with no effect.

The other side of Wobenzym that was reported was a reduction in Tinnitus, and sorry, that hasn't happened.

Here's the Wobenzym site

"Cold Pressed" Coconut Oil: is it the real thing?

I have quite a few people ask me about so-called ‘cold pressed’ coconut oil. It’s a clever marketing term that has been bandied about, but what does the heat of processing have to do with coconut oil? It may apply to olive oil, but does it apply to coconut oil?

Tropical Traditions founders Brian and Marianita Shilhavy were the first ones to export “Virgin Coconut Oil” from the Philippines in 2001, defining the term “Virgin Coconut Oil” on their websites since there was no industry-wide standard or agreed upon definition for such a label. Their definition has subsequently been used by most manufacturers and distributors of Virgin Coconut Oil.

Some groups have tried to improve upon this definition by including a “no heat” condition for processing Virgin Coconut Oil. But in 2005 Professor Vermont P. Dia of the University of the Philippines conducted a study with some of his graduate students to analyze various Virgin Coconut Oils produced using different methods, with all of them using little or no heat in the processing. Their results were published in December 2005, in The Philippine Agricultural Scientist, and these results became the standard for Virgin Coconut Oil quality in the Philippines. In 2006 Tropical Traditions had Professor Dia and his students test their Virgin Coconut Oil which is made using the traditional method and includes low levels of heat at the end of the process. It was not among the samples tested in the Philippines in 2005, since Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil was marketed exclusively in the United States. They discovered that Tropical Traditions’ Virgin Coconut Oil tested much higher in polyphenols, an antioxidant, than any of the low-heat or no-heat samples they had tested previously, sometimes testing with antioxidant levels that were twice as high! (Read Professor Dia’s statement here) This is further proof that low-tech traditional methods are not inferior to modern mass-produced machine methods emphasizing no heat. We suspect that some low-level heat is necessary to remove any existing enzymes or bacteria from the oil that can compromise the integrity of pure unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil.

To understand the “heat” issue in making Virgin Coconut Oil, go here:

While almost all Virgin Coconut Oils sold in Australia are mass-produced, Tropical Traditions still produces their Virgin Coconut Oil by hand in small batches by family micro enterprises. Most of them have been producing Virgin Coconut oil for over 6 years. They have learned what it takes to produce the highest quality oil, such as how to hand pick the best coconuts from each harvest.

Their most recent discovery in 2007 came when certain groups in rural areas had problems with water sources. Water is needed to make the coconut milk from which the oil is extracted. Using true Filipino ingenuity, they started collecting and using the pure nutritious coconut water from inside the organic coconuts instead. They noticed that the water separated from the oil much quicker, that less heat was needed at the end, and that less filtering was needed also. The end result was a higher quality and better tasting Virgin Coconut Oil. Independent laboratory analysis shows that this new method produces even higher levels of antioxidants than first tested in 2006 by Professor Dia!

So we now require all of our Virgin Coconut Oil producers to use the pure coconut water from their coconuts instead of boiled or purified tap water. This enhanced Virgin Coconut Oil with the highest levels of antioxidants is the same one we supply here in Australia.

Dr Robert O. Young: a truly amazing talk!

While you can, before you forget, download this talk by Dr Robert O. Young and set aside an hour to really listen.

As you probably know, I'm a great fan of the good works Dr. Young does in the area of acid/alkaline balance research. I've read his books, listened to his talks, but I've never heard a better talk than this about my favourite health strategy.

Do yourself a big favour and download it here. It's in mp3 format.

Here's a Thought for You

"As an M.D., I feel compelled to point out that there can be health problems from drinking too much water (hyponatremia or 'water poisoning', worsening of congestive heart failure, etc.). Although I agree with drinking water in place of soda, juice, etc., for the lower caloric content, there simply is NO truth to the myth that you need 6-8 glasses of water per day. Moderation is key..."

What do you think?

The Placenta; A Real Life Cloaking Device!

The placenta uses a cloaking device similar to that used by parasites to avoid detection by the mother’s immune system. Scientists looking to develop a diagnostic test for pre-eclampsia, a major and potentially fatal cause of foetal and maternal illness, made the amazing discovery which could have far reaching implications.

The team, based at the University of Reading, believe their findings will revolutionise our understanding of the placenta and research into recurrent miscarriages and pre-eclampsia. It is also hoped this method of avoiding immune rejection could be mimicked and used in other areas such as arthritis or even stem cell therapy.

I've had some great email responses to my post about how to get cancer, including:

"Hey Ian! That's not fair! You make everyone who's had cancer look like a beer swilling, fried chip guzzling couch potato! I've had my BC scare and it was all the more difficult to reconcile because I've always been a healthy (organic wherever possible) eater, fit and outdoorsy with no chemical vices like alcohol or cigarettes.

Sure many of the people with whom I shared Oncologist's waiting rooms fitted your criteria, but many didn't. I think the message is that the factors influencing our susceptibility for cancer are so embedded in our agricultural, food processing and storage (and career employment) systems that it's very hard to avoid!

Cleaning up my act post-cancer has been a full time job and NOT conducive to regular employment, family responsibility or financial security!
Give us a break!"

I hear you, my friend, I hear you! In fact even though the points I used came from New Scientist and were therefore scientifically valid in relation to the massive amounts of research into prehistory of cancer victims, the fact remains that we are all living to the best of our ability in a cancerous world with more toxins than we could possibly imagine! So we see all too often stories like yours.

In a past incarnation (age 24) I was a hang glider designer and maker.

I often wonder about my practice of using a grinding wheel to shape PVC battens for the sails. My innocent young body was enveloped in a cloud of the stuff! Sure, like you, I've lived cleanly for many years but the thought is still there. I guess for me it's now a matter of keeping my immunity levels as high as Iam capable, becasue the facts are (if I care to read the statistics) 2 out of 3 mern of my age will die of the nasty disease. Living clean is what we can all do, notwithstanding our sins of innocence.

Cancer and The Remote

It seems the most cancer-creating item in most households is the TV remote.

Why? Because it causes the most cancer-friendly conditions possible.

According to the new report from the American institute for Cancer Research, labelled Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer, the two major predeterminants for cancer are weight gain and activity level.

So the TV remote is one hell of a cancermaker!

The report says that whether you eat steak or fish for dinner is small chips when compared to the risk of fat or inactivity.

FlipFlops From China

We've had the lead coated toy alert or Chinese goods, the GBH-dissolving beads from China, the contaminated foods from China, but who'd have thought that the humble flip-flop footwear (thongs to you Aussies) was dangerous?
Take a look at this.

.. and when you have, have a think about this:

China makes 70 percent of the world's penicillin, 50 percent of its aspirin and 35 percent of its acetaminophen (often sold under the brand name Tylenol®), as well as the bulk of vitamins A, B12, C and E.

Now THAT's a good reason to stay healthy.

Is Your House Killing You?

Household cleaning sprays and air fresheners may well be to blame for the high rates of asthma across Europe and Australia for that matter!.

Use of the sprays on a regular basis increased the risk of developing the disease by between 30 to 50 per cent, a study of 3,500 people in 10 European countries including the UK has found. Even occasional use as little as once a week increased the risk. Air fresheners, furniture sprays and glass cleaners were found to have the strongest effect. Liquid cleaners and polishes had no effect.

The findings come from the European Community Respiratory Health Survey, one of the world's largest studies of lung disease. They are published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.

Previous research has shown that professional cleaners have increased rates of asthma but it is the first time that domestic cleaning has also been shown to create a risk.

If this worries you, take a look at our new air filter and ionizer. Not only does it filter and freshen the air, it actually electrocutes viruses!

Cancer Guidelines; How to Ensure You Join the Crowd and Die Of Cancer

With apologies to New Scientist, I've created an eleven-point list for ensuring you can get cancer. Here it is. Feel free to print it out and put it one your double fridge.

1. Make sure you have a Body Mass Index over 23 and work hard to increase this as you age. Don't let the media hype about 'thin' seduce you!

2. Keep physical activity at a reasonable level; definitely no more than 30 minutes per day. Make friends with your couch. Only walk when you can't drive, call email or roll. And be careful your mouse and remote control hand muxcles aren't over developed.

3. Don't waste time eating raw or green food. Get your energy through high sugar and energy-loaded fast food.

4. Let the beasts of the world support you. Eat at least 500g of meat a week. Processed meats are just great.

5. If you are a man, make sure a refreshing alcoholic beverage is always nearby. It may be hard, but women should strive to drink at least two standard drinks a day, men, four.

6. Live a nature-supporting lifestyle. Fruit and vegetable are rabbit and insect food. Save them by abstaining from eating any of their natural fodder. Even more important, if you must eat vegetables or fruit, leave the organic stuff for the animals. Make sure your vegies are safely protected with an all round insecticide, miticide fungicide, herbicide and biocide. Good for your in-cides.

7. Ensure all of your food is safe by insisting on a good chemical preservative. And make sure it's salty We came from the sea, didn't we?

8. Keep up to date with all of ther latest dietary supplements. You never know what you're missing if you don't try them all. A full cupboard is a healthy cupboard.

9. If you're a mum, be a thoroughly modern one and DO NOT BREASTFEED.

10. Keep lean and mean by avoiding water. If you must drink water, make sure it's in coffee. Do NOT drink alkaline water whatever you do. There are no double blind studies on its benefits and it's not sold by a pharmaceutical company so how can it be any good - even if the Japanese have used it for fifty years?
(What would they know anyway?)

11. If you've survived Cancer, and found the experience enjoyable, change nothing!
Your name is already up in lights on the Big C scoreboard!

To Meat on Meat or not to Meet. (Subtitled 'BeataMeatEater')

Just to throw a little more animal fat on the fire of the vegetarian / carnivore debate we've been witnessing here over the last few months, now the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research say excess body fat and red meat are linked to an increased risk of common cancers and should be avoided, said.

About 40 percent of all cancers are linked to food, lack of exercise, and body weight, the organizations said in a 571-page report released yesterday. A panel
of 21 researchers who compiled the report said it was the most comprehensive evaluation ever of evidence linking personal habits to cancer risk.

"Part of the purpose of the report was to show
that prevention of cancer by means of food, nutrition, and associated factors is as feasible and crucial as prevention of coronary heart disease," the researchers wrote. "The evidence that high body fatness and also physical inactivity are causes of a number of cancers, including common cancers, is particularly strong." This isn't one of the here today gone tomorrow reports. Hundreds of specialists evaluated more than 7,000 studies over five years to compile the report.

Panelists found "convincing evidence" that carrying extra weight, particularly around the waist, may lead to cancer of the esophagus, pancreas, colon, kidney, and uterus, as well as postmenopausal breast cancer.

The panelists recommended keeping extra weight off, exercising at least 30 minutes a day, and limiting consumption of alcohol and high-fat foods, such as burgers, french fries, milk shakes, pastries, and sugary drinks. The guidelines also apply to cancer survivors, the report said. Researchers said men should limit their alcohol intake to two drinks a day, and women one. Red meat, such as beef, pork, and lamb, which are linked to colorectal cancer, should be replaced with poultry, fish, and eggs. Processed meats that include bacon and lunchmeat should also be avoided, researchers said.

Naturally, release of the report spurred a few objections. The causes of cancer are "extremely complex and involve factors like genetics, the environment, lifestyle, and a host of other issues," said Randy Huffman, vice president of scientific affairs at the Washington-based American Meat Institute, in a statement.

Ian: I Wonder if this guy worked for the tobacco industry before this job?

World Health Organisation takes Alkaline Water study to the next level.

GENEVA — In January The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking to launch a multi-nation study of the possibility that hard water (typically, water containing calcium and/or magnesium) offers protection against human cardiovascular disease.

After a WHO-organized scientific conference and expert working group met in Baltimore, MD, in April 2006, the working group concluded that there was some evidence suggesting that water hardness, especially magnesium concentrations, may have a beneficial health effect. But it notes in the recent statement that the evidence reviewed in Baltimore “was not considered to be definitive.” Since then, WHO has decided that better-designed epidemiological studies are needed on the issue to draw firm conclusions that can be the basis of international public health policy.

WHO is inviting various nations to commence studies using as a guide the protocol used in an earlier study by the University of East Anglia of mortality among customers of public water supplies in the United Kingdom. WHO says it will not fund the new studies, but it will pool the data in an attempt to arrive at conclusions.

Kool Edu-Toys For Indian Kids

I well remember the hours and hours of pleasure I recieved from my parent's gift of a 'toy' microscope. I also remember vividly the images of fly's wings, dog fur and various spiders. It opened my eyes to the weornderful world of microcosmia.

So it's wonderful to hear of the non-profit group in India called Jodo Gyan who actually give these wooden based microscopes to Indian school kids for free.

"Indian children are not getting to experience all the joy and wonder of science because there is too much emphasis on the memorization and repetition of concepts," says Usha Menon, a government researcher who founded Jodo Gyan in 1999. "Hundreds of thousands of children are learning without understanding anything." Priced at 150 rupees (roughly $4), the microscope is just one of the educational tools created by Jodo Gyan, literally translated as 'linking knowledge'.

Cirque De Soleil hands out money for water

Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte announced here on October 29 that he will contribute US$105 million to his newly founded ONE DROP Foundation over the next 25 years to fund projects to rebuild water wells and provide drinking water in poor countries.

Water You Woudn't Feed a Dog.

STACY, MN — The tap water here is high in chlorine and is sickening families’ pets, an October 31 story in The Post Review said. Resident Ken Cummings, who has spent about $385 on water filters over the past three years, was told to stop giving his family’s pet rabbit tap water after it became ill. When he started giving it bottled water, it regained health.
Cummings said he goes through a lot of filters because they deteriorate.
The same thing happened to Mayor John Daher’s dog. His veterinarian told him not to give his dog city water.
The city’s rusty water, a result of chlorine reacting with iron, was discussed at an October 30 city council meeting. A resident in attendance said that when she fills her bathtub the water is brown and has been for 23 years.

Arsenic and Bangla Desh; a Remedy and a 'Water Hero.

Abul Hussam, an associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry at Virginia’s George Mason University who invented an arsenic-removing, point-of-use home water filter, has been named one of TIME Magazine’s Heroes of the Environment for 2007.

TIME’s senior environmental writer Bryan Walsh wrote that Hussam was selected because he was among “those ready with solutions.”

According to TIME, the water treatment device is “a deceptively simple device to address the problem” of arsenic in drinking water.

Hussam, who hails from Bangladesh, has first-hand experience with groundwater contaminated with dangerous levels of arsenic. Through research, he created an “affordable, effective and environmentally sustainable way to make water arsenic-free,” TIME reported.

His SONO filter, which won him the Grainger Challenge Gold Award from The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in February, works by having a top bucket — filled with coarse river sand and a composite iron matrix — filter coarse particles and inorganic arsenic. A second bucket — holding more coarse sand and wood charcoal — then removes organics. Finally the water is filtered again through fine river sand and wet brick chips.

“People tell me how their symptoms of arsenic poisoning have been eased or even reversed with use of the SONO filter,” Hussam said in his TIME profile. “I even hear that women now prefer to wash their hair with filtered water as it makes it softer.”

Ian: I love inventions like this; for years I've been dismayed about the knowledge that even the centuries-old trusted deep wells all across India and Bangla Desh are poisoning people.

"Loud people tend to have acidic body chemistry.."

Even chefs are getting the message. This chef reckons he can pick an acidic individual by the way they act in his restaurant.
He's coming from the Avurvedic point of view, but his observation is equally valid using macrobiotic philosophy or our own acid/alkaline balance concepts.

Personally, I have seen my own freneticism reduce over the seven years I've been drinking alkaline water. I seem to become more like water; I 'flow' more.

Comedy: a great weapon against Big Pharma

It's growing...

The international movement to ban the plastic non-recyclable water bottle is growing daily. Prepare to hear more about this issue.
Last year, at least two billion kilos of plastic bottles ended up in US city waste streams.
It can cost US cities more than $70 million in dumping and incineration fees alone.
Making bottles to meet Americans’ demand for bottled water required the equivalent of more than 17 million barrels of oil last year and generated more than 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Ian: What amazes me is how sex is used to sell water. What is the message of the pic above - albeit one of the more moderate ones? Why is a woman used to sell water?

News for Gluten Sufferers

Since I have been advising people on acid/alkaline balance there's always been one problem that recurs. The phone rings, and a client tells me that although his/her new alkalizer is doing great things for all aspects of her health. His/her blood pressure is still high. This puzzled me for a long time until I discovered my own gluten intolerance. It was gluten, not food stress or fat that was causing the BP problem! Later, Dr Gerry Brady, alkaline water user, reported a similar finding with one of his clients.

I'm quite sure that at least one in three people are gluten intolerant, so the news of an enzyme that may allow a sufferer to eat gluten-containing food is good news indeed. Cassie received her first Wobenzyme two days ago, and after my first dose, yesterday I splurged on (and risked) two delicious cup cakes. So far, I have had no reaction, but it's a bit early; my reaction usually occurs 48 hours after consumption. However, I'll keep you posted.

The Wobenzyme website is here. Amazingly, it includes one doctor's reports of tinnitus
reduction using Wobenzyme.

Want To Beat Alzheimers? Here's a way that costs nothing...

It seems that latest research suggests that a good upending at regular intervals may slow the possibility of Alzheimers' Disease. This report tells me that if I stand on my head regularly, that's what will happen.

Blood flowing through the brain may affect the way nerves transmit signals to other parts of the body, and if this is proved to be true, scientists says it could be used to treat brain diseases including Alzheimer's, schizophrenia and epilepsy.

According to scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, blood may actually influence nerve function and help to regulate information passing through the brain.

Other studies have shown that changes in blood flow affect the activity of nearby neurons, altering how they transmit signals to each other.

So there y'go. I am writing this standing on my head.
(Not)

And while we are on the subject, this report says that smarter people will lose memory faster with Alzheimers'.

More on Hope in a Hopeless World

Last week I discussed George Monbiot's (author; Heat) new prediction of a sudden and catastrophic rise in sea levels as a major ice shelf loses its underpinning and falls into the ocean. I received a reply I'd like to share.

It's a website based on Google Maps that is going to scare the whillikers out of all you sea-changers who've just invested your superannuation in a seaside shack/mansion/retreat.

The link allows you to go to your own locality and see the effect of sea level rises. It only goes to 7 metres. George is predicting a 23 metere rise....
Note: I'm not sure whether it will work without Google Maps and broadband.
Here's the link.

Chinese Herbs For Menstrual Cramps

It's as official as a study can get; a huge number of women studied for efficacy of various forms of therapy for menstrual cramps, and yes, Chinese Herbs far exceeds all others in efficacy.

Of course the article here points out that the problem we have with Chinese herbs 'off the shelf' or from a local practitioner is that it's now common for them to be contaminated with heavy metals - so you may be getting more than you bargained for.

I recommend Fusion Health Chinese Herbal Remedies because the guys there have gone to the trouble to source clean herbs and have them approved by the TGA. They have an excellent range of products and a naturopath online who can assist.

By the way, this isn't a plug; I make nothing out of this; I just think their products are great and their ethics shine through their business.
