Dr Young, you've done it again!
"I have been a brittle diabetic for over 20 years - meaning my blood sugar readings could go from 50 to 700 anytime.
I am on an insulin pump and was taking from 40 to 75 units of insulin a day. I have been a vegetarian for over 32 years. Dr. Young inspired me to cut out cheese, bread, rice, potatoes while eating only alkaline foods and water.
My 14 day average readings was over 200 forever. On the 3rd day on the alkaline diet my avg was down to 165 & 3 weeks into the diet I was down to an incredible 107. My doctors are in shock. My slightly high blood pressure has come down and I have not gone off of this incredible pH Miracle diet once. I am now strictly vegan and eat 2 to 3 avocados per day. I can only thank the Youngs for changing my life & hope to someday visit their retreat.
I now use less than 20 units of insulin per day & achieve greater results."

"I once met a man who told me of an interesting way to always get free clothes and never have to do laundry. He told me about Goodwill's two week return policy. He would buy all his clothes at a Goodwill store, return them after 13 days for a store credit, and then start the cycle again. I was a bit shocked, but impressed at the same time. What he did wasn't illegal, and it wasn't wasteful either. No new clothes were ever made for him, his laundry was done in bulk in large efficient machines (assuming the clothes didn't just go right back on the rack), and the returned clothes were made available to outfit a new body. Brilliant! His friends must have thought he had a giant wardrobe, never repeating an outfit.

Dr Ornish and Dr Young on prostate cancer
The men underwent three months of major lifestyle changes, including eating a diet rich in alkaline fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and soy products, moderate exercise such as walking for half an hour a day, and an hour of daily stress management methods such as meditation.
As expected, they lost weight, lowered their blood pressure and saw other health improvements.
But the researchers found more profound changes when they compared prostate biopsies taken before and after the lifestyle and dietary changes. After the three months, the men had changes in activity in about 500 genes -- including 48 that were turned on and 453 genes that were turned off. The activity of disease-preventing genes increased while a number of dis-ease-promoting genes, including those involved in prostate cancer and breast cancer, shut down, according to the study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
The research was led by Dr. Dean Ornish, head of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito, California, and a well-known author advocating lifestyle changes to improve health.
"It's an exciting finding because so often people say, 'Oh, it's all in my genes, what can I do?'
Well, it turns out you may be able to do a lot," stated Dr. Ornish. "'In just three months, I can change hundreds of my genes simply by changing what I eat and how I live?' That's pretty exciting," Ornish said.
"The implications of our study are not limited to men with prostate cancer." Ornish said the men avoided conventional medical treatment for prostate cancer for reasons separate from the study. But in making that decision, they allowed the researchers to look at biopsies in people with cancer before and after lifestyle changes.
"It gave us the opportunity to have an ethical reason for doing repeat biopsies in just a three-month period because they needed that anyway to look at their clinical changes (in their prostate cancer)," Ornish said.
According to Dr. Robert O. Young, "genes and cells are not living. For if they were living they would know no death and would be physiologically imperishable. But genes and cells do disorganize and perish. Genes and cells are the organizations of living intelligent matter that is indestructible. This indestructible matter that makes up all genes and cells was first identified by a French medical doctor Antione BeChamp, in the late 19th century and is called the microzyma. According to BeChamp the microzyma knows no death but only change. The change in genes and cells is microzymian change and is initiated by lifestyle and dietary choice."
"The knowledge that organized matter, genes, and cells are all made up of intelligent indestructible microzymas and are only subject to change, based upon lifestyle and dietary choice is a significant discovery in the prevention and treatment of ALL sickness and dis-ease! Matter cannot be created nor can it be destroyed it can only change. The body genes, cells, tissues and organs are only subject to change not death. To maintain a healthy organized state of plant, animal or human genes, cells, tissues and organs you MUST maintain the alkaline design of that microzymian matter. The healthy state of all plant, animal or human matter is regulated by a most important health factor and that health factor is the pH factor or the perfect health (pH) factor," states Dr. Young.

Bryan's Alkaline Transformation
Ian and Brian at ION LIFE HQ
Some alkaline water drinkers really do go 'all the way'. I had a visit from Bryan Wernowski today, who bought his water alkalizer a year ago after much hemming and hawing about whether everything we said was true.
'I am from a chemistry background,' said Bryan, 'so it just made sense, so I eventually took the plunge.'
Bryan was amazed at the immediate effect it had, (as he put it) 'filling him up' from a previously dehydrated state. He kept on drinking for a couple of days and didn't urinate because the 'wetter water' was, he says, rehydrating him after years of undiagnosed dehydration.
Now Bryan has bought a lotus sanitizer. After beginning alkalizing he has looked at all aspects of his 59 years and wants to clean up his act, including four mornings a week with Master Bruce, his Chinese Taoist Ch'i Gong master. Clean water, clean thought, clean food. Go for it Bryan!

Hold on to your wallets, baby boomers!
"For the well-insured, obtaining health care in the United States is like dining in a sumptuous restaurant that has menus without prices. A price-free menu encourages diners to ignore cost when making their selections. Similarly, well-insured patients usually don't know the prices of medical services at the time they receive them. Even for common procedures, few hospitals list their charges, much less the accompanying professional fees and the out-of-pocket costs; these are only revealed weeks or months later, when the explanation of benefits statement arrives."
...and... just to show he knows what he's talking about,
"By 2005, per capita expenditures were 92% greater than in Canada, 90% greater than in France, 95% greater than in Germany, and 135% greater than in the United Kingdom. Measures of population health have improved no more in the United States than in these countries, offering little comfort to those who presume that uniquely high expenditure is purchasing better health."
NOW do you think spending on preventative health is a waste of money?

And While the Hounds bay...
What is a real laugh is the use of a discredited report from Japan about baby rats having heart problems from drinking alkaline water, especially in the light of this story that hit my desk this week from David Bergman, an ION LIFE alkaline water drinker.
and from David's partner Margaret,
"My hands were badly affected by arthritis to the point that my fingers and knuckles were all lumpy and distorted. I’ve been using a Jupiter Water Alkalizer for 9 months. Now I have no pain at all; my hands and knuckles are almost back to normal and I feel great."
"HI Ian,
thanks for your article in the current Living Wisdom magazine. I am going to write to them and ask them to insist that all authors disclose their connections to products. I was very unsettled by the previous month's article damming alkaline water, we have had our delightful "Melody" for close to a year now and I was loving the water she gave us. Then I read the anti-alkaline article and panicked - there is plenty of heart disease in my family history and I didn't want to join in, I decided to set Melody to purified water only until I could do more research. A few busy weeks passed and then your article appeared and I read it with interest and some relief. I still kept Melody on purified only, having not had time to follow up the issues. Then I realised that some problems that I had a year ago (and I had even forgotten I had suffered from them) were returning in the time I had stopped drinking Melody's water - gastric reflux and IBS type problems among them - I will still do more research, because that is an important part of making my healthy choices for our family, but today I have switched Melody back to Alkaline and I will be relieved to return to improving health rather than declining.
Thanks for your informative reply.
best wishes
Leonie
Reverse Osmosis water an 'Environment Changer'
Residents of areas changing to recycled water systems are going to have a different 'water chemistry' from the reverse osmosis systems that are employed by recycling plants. This water will, it seems, have an as yet unknown effect on aquifers and plant life.
RO water, for those not 'in the know' is water that is stripped of virtually every element. It usually tests acidic because it becomes positively charged during the process, causing CO2 in the air to be absorbed by it. For people intent on removing fluoride from their tap water it's the best system, but what is left is seriously 'denatured' water.
RO is also getting a bad rap for its water usage and therefore environmental efficiency; it wastes approx.9 litres of water for every litre it supplies.
Here's the report on RO water's environmental effect.
Diet Soda; An Acid Trip Extraordinaire!
"What ties diet and regular soft drinks together? That’s right, brutally high acid levels."
-Dave Rousett
It's common knowledge that people who consume sugary soft drinks tend to put on the pounds. But for all you virtuous individuals who stick to 'diet sodas', surprisingly, it turns out that there's no such thing as a free lunch when it comes to soft drinks, even diet ones. Drinking more than one soda a day -- regular or diet --appears to increase the risk factors for heart disease.
- A 25% increased risk of impaired (or higher than normal) fasting glucose and high triglyceride levels.
- A 31% greater likelihood of becoming obese.
- A 32% higher chance of lower HDL levels.
- A 44% increased risk of metabolic syndrome.
These results were published in the July 31, 2007, issue of Circulation:Journal of the American Heart Association.
Dr. Dhingra and his colleagues were surprised that regular and diet soft drinks posed similar risks for metabolic syndrome -- which remained the case even when the study was adjusted for dietary factors such as saturated and trans fats, calorie and fiber consumption and levels of physical activity. There are several theories as to why this might be -- perhaps the extreme sweetness of soft drinks makes people more apt to eat sweet foods... or the caramel content may promote insulin resistance and inflammation. But these are theories, and no one knows for sure. Dr. Dhingra cautions that more research is needed to confirm the findings in this study. In the meantime, he advises that people restrict their soft drink intake to be an every-so-often treat.

Why People Don't Want You to Buy a Water Alkalizer
The 'warnings' have one thing in common; as far as I am aware, not one researcher quoted has ever tested a modern water alkalizer.
We have become used to this sort of tactic as one particular competitor has been 'at it' for seven years now, throwing everything he has at us in the hope, I suppose, that some will stick. If anything, it has prompted people to educate themselves and to look behind the headlines. In my view, the campaign has actually increased our success, so I guess I should thank the guy who is behind it all.
The second article was also published in the UK, and I've had emails from both Australia and the UK from people worried about what the articles claim.
