Popeye Redeemed Again!

Burly sailors like Popeye may not be the only ones to benefits from spinach, with new research suggesting that women who eat spinach may have a lower risk of ovarian cancer than women who don't.

New research, published in the International Journal of Cancer, reports that increased intake of the flavonoid kaempferol, found in spinach and some cabbages, was associated with a 40 per cent reduced risk of ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer accounts for 4 per cent of all cancers diagnosed in women globally, with 190,000 new cases every year. In Europe there are 61,000 new cases each year, with the highest incidence rates found in the Northern European countries of the UK, Ireland, Denmark and Finland.

A Lovely Quote about Water

In an age when man has forgotten his origins and is blind even to his most essential needs for survival, water along with other resources has become the victim of his indifference

Rachel Carson

Changing effect of Alkalizing

Every now and then I receive an email like this:

"I've been on the water and alkalizing for about six months. It's been amazing. Full of energy, great effects. Now all of a sudden I am down on energy. Has the water stopped working, or what?"

The simple fact is that the water doesn't 'heal' anyone. It simply provides the necessary haelth-supporting form of water to help us to heal ourselves. It also doesn't 'stop working, unless the alkalizer really has broken down!

But there's more to this question. After almost seven years of listening to thousands of people talking about their health issues I can make some broad generalisations:

1. We all have 'dis-ease'. Some of us have developed ways to hide it better than others.
2. Many 'dis-eases' are 'doing what comes naturally' even though we don't even know it.
3. Heightened states of health or balance often expose these underlying 'dis-eases'.

In my own case, I never had any inkling that I was gluten intolerant. I would, however, get a bad back every six months to the point where I could hardly walk. The latest whizzkid massage therapist or chiropractor would be rushed for a 'fix' and it would go away for another six months.

Now I am gluten free, my back is better than it's ever been.

So it's a reasonable assumption in my case that the rebalancing of my pH allowed me to more readily 'read' what was happening to my body. My health or body consciousness grew. My body reconnected with my mind.

This has been the experience of everyone on staff here at ION LIFE in various ways and it's interesting to consider the possibility that a 'dis-ease unknown' may be far more damaging than a 'dis-ease' known.

It's a bit like life. If we work through our conflicts as they appear, we maintain a peaceful state of mind. If we bury them, deny them or try to 're-frame' them, then they become part of our accumulated body chemisty/electricity. The simple retention of conflict damages us as long as we choose to hold on to it rather than deal with it.

We see this in many 'unconscious' shoppers at the supermarket. We see the food they eat, look at their bodies and their demeanor and we just know that they are carrying toxic thoughts, attitudes and chemicals. We also know that statistically they will be the ones to fall in a heap when the accumulation of 'dis-ease' overwhelms their defensive unconsciousness.

I do have a test for people who think the water may not be working. Go back to ordinary water for a fortnight. You'll soon find out what your body 'thinks' about water!

Lemons: Acid or Alkaline?

Peter wrote to me about his confusion over lemons and whether they are alkalizing or acidifying.

This is a typical point of confusion when choosing to go alkaline.

A lemon has a pH of around 2.2; extremely acidic! You'll read most if not all the Alkalarian authors telling you it is alkaline. However, even here we have differing opinions.
Chris Vasey, author of The Acid Alkaline Diet says lemons are very acidifying.
Dr Susan E Brown, author of The Acid Alkaline food Guide says they are medium alkalizers.
Harald Tietze author of Youthing Not Ageing, says they are alkalizing.
Dr. Ted Baroody, author of Alkalize or Die says they are alkaline forming.

Now wonder you're confused!

So once again, let's look at what ALKALIZING means. It means that after the acids are used up in metabolism, there is a net increase or alkaline minerals that is larger than the increase in acid minerals LEFT OVER. This is what forms your alkaline reserves, or more correctly, buffer.

Chicken Anyone?

I am constantly amazed at the degree to which we have become dependent on Chinese products to maintain our standard of living. I recently noticed a warning sign on an expensive 'organic' bag of potting mix warning me not to put my hands in it. On investigation it appears that China is selling Australian garden suppliers dirt, complete with unspecified nasties including heavy metals! Sometimes I wonder - now that they are even selling their own soil - if there will actually be any China left!

So it came as no surprise to see this report about chickens:

"Around 3 million chickens that are currently being sold in stores and supermarkets across America have been contaminated by the chemical melamine. Melamine is used in industrial glues, fire retardants and fertilisers, and has so far killed a dozen cats and dogs that have eaten contaminated pet food. The chemical has entered the human food chain because scraps of the pet food were added to the animal feed given to several thousand pigs and millions of chickens.

US health inspectors have traced the contamination back to Chinese suppliers, who added it to the pet food to make it appear their products contained more protein than they actually did. Only 345 pigs that ate the contaminated feedstuff went to market, but inspectors fear that up to 3 million chickens may currently be for sale in the shops.

Inspectors stress that the contaminated meat poses a very low health risk to humans, but this will do little to assuage a public that believes there are too few controls on what is put into our food."

Amazing Water

Here's a link to a news article on wound-healing water. An American firm has announced it today... What interests me is that its properties sound very similar to the water we all get for free from our Jupiter Alkalizers; people are always reporting new ways to use the byproduct acid water, including wound healing, gargling for sore throats, eye relief and far more.

On the local front we had a call from a Moggie-loving client, Tricia, whose Mog was severely mauled. After using salt water to attempt to heal Puss's deep scrathes, she used acid water from her Jupiter. Two days and Moggie was healed!

COCA COLA in the news again on human rights abuses

For those of you with ADSL, here's a video about how CocaCola treats workers. It reminded me of a recent Australian news article that proudly said that the entire CocaCola plant in NSW ran using only 15 people.

MtyTeddy Bear Was NEVER like this!

Once voted one of Wired's 50 Best robots ever, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab's Huggable therapeutic bear robot made a rare public appearance at the Robo Business 2007 conference and expo this week.

Built on an MSR service, the Web interface shows what Huggable sees through its camera eyes, its relative body position, and even if it's being moved, and the interface allows the user to control the robot's still-limited interaction.

Huggable cannot get up and walk around, but it is, according to Stiehl, a very complex robot, featuring full-body sensor skin, sensors, and tensiometers in its legs and feet, speakers and a microphone in its head, a camera in each eye (one color and one black and white), and motors in the neck so it can turn its head. Future versions will add motors to the eyebrows, ears, shoulders, and the neck. The latter should give Huggable a full eight degrees of head movement, so it can tilt its head to the side.

For very serious Computer Nerds

A friend came to me to ask for help for her son. He never came out of his room except for food and toilet necessities. She was worried, and he wasn't talking.

When I visited him I decided to 'play it cool' and not tell him how he should be in any way. The result was frankly, amazing. The kid - about 15 at the time - was milk-white and hesitant to tell me what he was doing on the computer.

His room was...ah... totally PC. There was basically nothing in the room rhat did not support his PC habit. But when this 'uncool' gawky kid told me that he was one of the world leaders in his favourite online game, things started to make sense - in a 'cyber' sort of a way.

He was so good at the game that he had a worldwide team of cyberwarriors working to his gameplan for world domination. He was in constant contact by chat with hundreds of like minded kids. They looked up to him. They respected him. They talked about him. Clearly, he was way ahead in points on what a teenage boy needs in peer support, respect and testing of his abilities. The only difference was that it was cyberworld. Would he have gotten this support outside of cyberspace. I doubt it. he wasn't in any way what kids would call cool, and when you aren't cool, it isn't cool - your life, that is!

When I saw the pic accompanying this article I remembered his fridge. It was the smallest he could buy and it had the usual TV dinner garbage in it.

This USB powered minifridge seems to be the ultimate for the cyberwarror/geek!

Whare is he now? He's about 24. He has come out of the closet/bedroom. He has bought himself new stylish clothes. He has a good job advising people on their PC problems. And... he has a girlfriend.

Cybergeek mothers - fear not -time does heal! Remember the most important thing a kid needs is acceptance, support and boundaries.

To Stent or Not to Stent; that is the question.

The stent has become part of the standard toolkit for the heart specialist. It’s a crude, but effective, device for ‘propping up’ arteries that may collapse after angioplasty, or which may get blocked by a build-up of plaque in a process known as restenosis.

This micro-engineering has been actively used for the past 25 years – and it’s only now just occurred to specialists that simple, and inexpensive, lifestyle changes work just as well.

A new trial, involving 2,297 heart patients with at least one blocked coronary artery found that they fared just as well if they stopped smoking, exercised, and improved their diet.

They lived as long, if not longer, than the patients who were given a stent, but who otherwise carried on as before, and their quality of life was also far higher.

This is bad news for American heart specialists who routinely insert 1 million stents a year, funded by health insurance plans. The new study, known as Courage (Clinical Outcomes Utilizing Revascularization and Aggressive Drug Evaluation), may put an end to the “irrational exuberance that surrounds stenting”, says Steven Nissen, immediate past president of the American College of Cardiology.

Kiwi Invasion

We met Michael Hayman, our NZ distributor in person for the first time after many years of phone meetings. Michael is based in Wellington and is a highly respected health practitioner in the Land of The Long White. If you're a Kiwi he's the man to contact for personalised service and advice. He has been with us for so long now he is a true 'Alkalarian'.

Michael says "The process of alkalizing your body will definitely have an effect on the ageing process. The health we had when we were younger isn't lost. It's just misplaced. The method isn't magic, nor is it rocket science, but alkaline water is most definitely a good way to achieve alkalizing of the body."

Sugar Update

Things are hotting up in reponses to my weekly Alkalarian Tips. Here's an email I received today from Clive:
"I read your last tip of the week regarding sugar.

I am an engineer and I worked in the Tate & Lyle Sugar refinery in East London. The way they make sugar is very basically, boil it, cool it and turn it into crystals as it cools.

The way they make brown sugar is to take white sugar and coat it with molasses. To make dark sugar, they add more molasses and to make light brown sugar, they use less molasses. I saw the process - sorry to burst your bubble.

As for "raw" sugar - do you mean complete with rat shit and bits of earth, cement dust, the odd dead body and all the other general detritus? Because that is how the raw sugar comes and that is why they refine it under clinical conditions.

So far they cannot attribute a "dodgy tummy" to anyone having eaten
refined sugar as the process is VERY clean.

The best way to avoid the acidifying problems of sugar is not to consume
it.

Regards

Clive Davies

Ian~ thank you, Clive! I always wondered about 'brown' sugar! Here's a link about sugar addiction that compares it to heroin addiction in effect.

Windsurfing Olympian Tells all

Fiona Taylor contacted me recently. She'd just read my little "Untold Truth About The Cause of Disease" Book and was amazed because it was almost her experience, word-for word. She has used ION LIFE alkaline water to balance out her excess carb intake as a world class athlete. If you're into competitive sport, it might just be a very big plus to get a copy of her book. Gentlemen.. Would you go to bed with this?

The Extensys4000™ is designed to be used at night in the privacy and comfort of your own home. It is very simple to use. Every night before going to bed you attach the device. This procedure takes only a minute and it is very comfortable to wear. The next morning you simply remove the device with the quick release latch.

When you have the Extensys4000™ firmly attached proceed to turn the main dial to stretch the rings. The ring system is designed to move in unison, stretching the penis in a uniform way. Once the desired tension is achieved release the ring and leave the device on untill the morning. If you apply too much tension the safety mechanism releases the grip to avoid injury.

Omigod, I am soo glad to hear that!

Acid Reflux

Here's a rather 'traditional' article on acid reflux. The good doc gives a chemical answer and looks at herbs, but doesn't look at water.

The 'Poofy Look""

Oh yes, we get mail...

Ian,
In your photo, you seem to be wearing a robe. Is it that of a Franciscan Friar or a Tibetan monk ?
Whatever it does have a poofy look about it, which is probably not the image you wanted to portray ?
Jim

Ian: Jim, it's a standard issue 'Hoodie', similar to what you see Anthony Mundine coming to the ring in, or the gangstas in the rap movies. Sorry you see me as a 'Poofymonk'.

I've had magazine editors tell me I'm too scruffy, advertising people tell me I shouldn't wear glasses 'cos I look older... and now I'm accused of being a poofymonk!

I yam what I yam. Do I have to wear a white coat and plastic stethoscope for you to take me seriously? I don't think so.

What would YOU do to survive the the third world?

This link made me think about how lucky I am . Here's a lovely man, striving to overcome adversity and realise his own idea. Who knows if it's a good idea or not? He makes a very good point about the fact that 1st world companies can sell into his country without need to verify that their water filters are 'up to scratch'.
More:

Ah.. That feels good!

Here's a letter David, our US distributor received today:
"I never knew how important, how essential healthful water really IS!
I have real hope in my recovery after all these years! Thank you for your informative site! All your effort and integrity will not be wasted. You are a real hero for all on this big blue planet. Thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart!"

Water and Pregnancy

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indiana School of Medicine researcher reported May 7 that pesticides and nitrates in surface water contribute to both premature births in the United States and reduced child intellectual development.

According to Paul Winchester, M.D., professor of clinical pediatrics at the Indiana School of Medicine, who presented his research at the annual meeting of the Pediatric Academic Societies in Toronto, the growing premature birth rate in the United States appears to be strongly associated with the increased use of pesticides and nitrates. His research found that premature birth rates peaked when pesticide and nitrate measurements in surface water were highest, from April to July, and were lowest when nitrates and pesticides were lowest.

Winchester, director of Newborn Intensive Care Services at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, also reported that student research subjects who were conceived during the summer months when pesticides and nitrates levels are highest in surface waters scored lower on statewide standardized tests than classmates who were conceived during other times of the year.

For the past four years, Winchester and colleagues have focused attention on the outcomes of pregnancy in Indiana and the United States in relation to environmental pesticides and nitrates in surface and drinking water.

Ian: Are we any different here? I shudder when I see a poor mum-to-be lining up with her cheap packaged food purchases.

My Friend George

An email appeared from my friend George last night:

"Good evening Ian.
It would be hard to argue with the statements at the beginning of your latest newsletter, but it is not always easy to find that fresh organic produce close to home. A stall used to operate at the Ettalong Markets on Sundays. But the higher prices were a deterrent to the pensioners, and the working customers as well. So, if you buy organic, you eat less to stretch the expense."

George, Id have to argue with you on this one. Organic is simply a better delivery system than process-grown food. The data is in, in many repeated studies, that organic delivers far more essential nutrients than chemical foods. And yes, George, distance does degrade!

The true cost of food is going to become increasingly important to us as climate change bites deeper into our entrenched distribution and growing systems, and we'll see (I sincerely hope) a return to backyard and suburban 'lotties' as a necessary rather than a boutique way of growing food. We'll gather in communal gardens and sit and watch the vegies grow rather than in our concret boxes watching the 'boob tube'. We'll swap seeds rather than software, and people will gather to admire your broccolli rather than stare malevolently as they scurry for the safety of their mortgage cave. And we'll regain our connection with Earth because we'll see the miracle of food every day. Bring it on!

"The problem, you will explain is the degeneration of the food over time. Straight off the plant is best. In Byron Bay you have all that space, fertile soil (I hope), which gives you an advantage."

George, even though I love Byron Bay, I long for the rich earth and real season changes of Tasmania! When I see Gardening australia and listen to dear old Peter Cundall, I yearn to be away from the humid, bug-laden heat of the Bay. It may grown good Paw Paws but tomatoes? carrots? Nah. Forget it.

"You also have the water alkalizer to help neutralise any residual acid. Most of your readers are probably in a similar situation to myself and can't afford your device. We have to try to neutralise our acid intake by careful nutrition. Keep up the good work. Keep laughing.
Your neurotic friend George. Live Long and Prosper."

George, thank you for your letter. I love sharing. Please email me your address and I'll send you a bottle of Alkabalance.

Alkaline Water Scandal! Shock! Horror!

The Japanese Parliament is poised on the edge of a scandal involving Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his close ally, DPJ President Ichiro Ozawa.

"Mr Ozawa has also managed to avoid participation in direct debates with the heads of other political parties. Considering Ozawa's own huge real estate purchases, the DPJ chief has been hesitant to attack Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Toshikatsu Matsuoka for alleged misuse of political funds to buy bottles of ionized alkaline water."

Oh yes, things are really heating up in the Diet. (Japanese Parliament)

Portable Waterman Alkalizer

We have had a notification from the distributor that some recently delivered Watermans leak around the filter. If you have a Waterman and are having this problem please email the distributor here and he will arrange an exchange.

Fridge Dispensed Alkaline Water

We haven't spoken much about the WellBeing Alkalizer and water re-energizer. It's a simple in-line water cartridge that will last at least 12 months and delivers alkaline negatively charged water to your fridge drinks dispenser. It can also be used to attach to your current water filter system. So if you are still working up to your own full alkalizer, or you've just invested in a new water filter or R.O. or volcanic system and NOW you realise you should have waited for the ability to alkalize, then this is for you. And hey, it's not going to break the bank!

Crystal Images

I'm sure many of you have seen the movie 'What The Bleep'. Anyone who did would have been excited by the superb crystals of water in that movie. I met Mr Emoto some years ago when he gave a lecture here in Byron Bay. he is a fascinating man and his philosophy of the ability of water to reflect emotional states is controversial and at the same time, in line with current quantum thought.

Few people know that the very first image Mr Emoto created was of ionized microclustered water and to our knowledge he has never done one since.

Well, after a long wait, Mr Emoto agreed to photograph puictures of water from the Jupiter Science Alphion, our most popular model, and you can see the results here, including a phased lapse image of the stages of crystal growth. I'm aware that many people have already seen images advertised and on websites but Mr Emoto advises that the only ones he has authorised have their own Hado institute ID Number. You'll see it on our image on our web page here.

It's also made it onto Digg.Com and is rising fast. if you see it there, you might like to give it a vote.

Another Way to Alkalize: and it's FREE!

I've been feeling really, really good for the last 3 weeks; even better than normal. I seem to have received a sensory buffer between the many ills of the world, and yet I am still able to cope with them, apply myself and empathise more than ever. I see things of beauty every day and marvel at the small gifts of life; the pattern on a leaf, the shape of a cloud, a comment heard in the heart.

I'm experiencing the effects of a return to meditation. I meditated for many years but it fell away with the needs of the business. Three weeks ago Cassie and I took a week off and spent it at a Stillness In Action Retreat, run by longterm meditators Simon Clough and Bobbi Allan.

The return of joy at contacting the heart on a daily basis has continued. Now we awaken at 5am and sit for an hour. At 6 am we walk the Cape here at Byron Bay and each time I reach the tip of the Cape and take in the vastness of the ocean iand its changing moods, my heart feels... incredible! At seven we have breakfast in the garden and at nine we hit the office.

Alkalizing occurs when we meditate because a byproduct of meditation is even, deep breathing, allowing the body to convert carbonic acid to carbon dioxide and mineral salts. I often wonder whether meditators realise what effect it is having on their body chemistry. Anyone who has viewed 'What The Bleep' has seen the effect of body chemicals on the nervous system, which in turn, has its own effect on the way we think.

By the way, if you'd care to spend seven days regaining your own inner peace, I can really recommend Simon and Bobbi. They have just two more retreats for the year, one in Sydney and one in Adelaide. I should also add that half a day is spent in various meditation practices, and half the day is spent on the work of Dr Joanna Macey, who has been teaching empowerment for over twenty years. Her specialty is working with the fears we have with the 'huge' questions like climate change and nuclear energy, offering us ways that convert that misdirected fear into positive life strategies. Lovely stuff!

Have you got your Yin and Yang in the right place?

Here's an email I received recently:
Hi Ian,
thanks for good reading and info, I just want to run this by you, Was talking to a herbalist/naturopath who said she didn't like alkaline water as she said it contained too much Yin energy (if yin is the female energy) and that it unbalanced the body's yin/yang energy .
What do you make of that ? I am interested to see if that could be true or where she would get that from. Again thanks for your info.
Cheers, S.

S,
we get quite a few of these over the years. Here's the fiunny thing about what he/she says; here we are, surrounded by acidic pollution, acidic food, acidic drink and acidic stream, and he/she says we might get too Yin. I've been drinking alkaline water for six + years, Daniel Reid, author
of the Tao of Detox, for ten years, another friend 12 years and I can assure you, pretty woman, that my Yang is firmly in place and fully functional!

Old Alkies

I just had a visit from two long term Alkalarians, Keith and June Freeman of Port Douglas. Well into their sixties, Keith and June have purchased five ION LIFE water systems over the years. They just look so alive!

"I thought it was a load of rubbish at first,' said Keith. "Now I wouldn't live without it!" They've bought systems for all of their family, and have followed ION LIFE's progress from afar over the last six years. Keith is an ex bankie and marketing man and he loves what we're doing. He gave me some hot tips on how to keep on keeping on with our ethical business system, and I'm grateful!

Some days it's just so good coming to work!
Just in today.. a provocative article by Dr Young on the cause of MS. Here
