Diabetes healed naturally

Many of you who have followed this blog for soem time will remember how inspired I became about the amazing Video "Simply Raw; Healing Diabetes in 30 Days. I was so impressed by it that we rented the local theatre and screened it for locals. Today I received this wonderful email:

"Ian,
I discovered your email address this morning via 'The Mov
ement To Reverse Diabetes Naturally' website. A few days ago I ordered a copy of Gabriel Cousen's book, 'There is a cure for diabetes', after reading excerpts from it on the internet.
It's very exciting and encouraging to find out about someone in Australia who is so involved with this whole movement. I admire what you've done by screening the movie,'Simply Raw' and organising the retreat.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 6 months ago at 52 years of age.Needless to say, it was a huge shock. Since my late teens I had been vegetarian and for over 20 years I've predominately eaten organic foods. Over the last few days, since
learning about Gabriel Cousen's work, I have made the decision to change to a vegan diet and mainly raw foods.
Also, about a week and a half ago, after forgetting to take insulin with me to work I didn't inject any insulin before lunch that day. When I was back home in the afternoon my blood glucose levels were normal and so I decided not to inject insulin before dinner. I have still not injected any insulin for over a week and
a half. I've made sure that I constantly check my blood glucose levels (at least 10 times a day) and so I feel I am being responsible.
I need to find a GP who is also involved with wholistic healing and ideally who actively follows or is at least sympathetic to Gabriel Cousen's principles. If you know of any doctors you could recommend I would really appreciate any information you could give me.
I liv
e in Melbourne, in the Dandenong Ranges.

Thankyou,
Julie Doncevic

PS - I cried when I read about the 10 year old boy who went to the screening of the movie."

Ian: Can anyone in Melbourne help?

Italian chlorinated water cancer link

From this Italian study, we learn a possible link between chlorinated water and bladder cancer.

"There were 249 (45%) patients who only drank bottled water, 177 (32%) who drank municipal water, 38 (7%) who drank artesian well water, 7 (1%) who drank spring water and 89 (16%) with a mixed water source. A chlorinated water supply was more frequent in never smokers than in smokers (p=0.015). T1 tumours (cancer that has begin to grow into the connective tissue beneath the bladder lining) occurred statistically more frequently (p=0.02) in patients drinking chlorinated municipal water than Ta tumours (cancer just in the innermost layer of the bladder lining), suggesting a possible role of disinfection by-products in promoting bladder cancer aggressiveness. Therefore patients drinking chlorinated water for a long period should also be considered at higher risk. The activity/effect of water pollution is possibly weaker than that of cigarette smoking and not easily detected in smokers due to a masking effect caused by the stronger factor."

Holy Cow! Watch out for the Holy water

Swine Flu Fears Lead to Holy Water Ban

Some Roman Catholic churches in Tokyo, Japan are reported to have emptied holy water basins due to fears that worshippers may spread ‘swine flu’ (influenza virus H1N1) when dipping their fingers into the water. Virus particles from the hands of one person could potentially be spread to the hands of others who subsequently use the same water. Infection could result if the second person then touches the mucous membrane of their nose, mouth or eyes before washing their hands. According to a report from Reuters News Agency, priests have also been asked to wipe their hands with disinfectant towels before distributing communion wafers.

Pathogenic Shower Heads

Is nowhere sacred? Now we learn that a shower head is the repository of serious, serious bacteria causing heavy duty respiratory infection.
“If you are getting a face full of water when you first turn your shower on, that means you are probably getting a particularly high load of Mycobacterium avium, which may not be too healthy,”

Symptoms of pulmonary disease caused by the bacteria can include tiredness, a persistent, dry cough, shortness of breath, weakness and "generally feeling bad." Immune-compromised people like pregnant women, the elderly and those who are fighting off other diseases are more prone to experience such symptoms, said Professor Pace, a professor in the molecular, cellular and developmental biology department, CU, Boulder, Colorado
Ouch!

Come on, Aussie, come on. This is just so NOT good enough!

The Associated Foreign Press reports that according to a risk consultancy MaplecroftAustralians have overtaken Americans as the world's biggest individual producers of carbon dioxide, which is blamed for global warming, .

British firm Maplecroft placed Australia's per capita output at 20.58 tons a year, some four percent higher than the United States and at the top of the list of 185 countries.

Canada, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia rounded out the top five. China remains the world's biggest overall greenhouse gas polluter, followed by the United States.

Maplecroft added that China and India's per person carbon production came in at just 4.5 and 1.16 tons respectively, in sharp contrast to their big overall figures. The report was released ahead of a major UN summit in Copenhagen in December aiming to thrash out a new climate change treaty. Australia, whose vast size and isolation make for high transport costs for goods and people, has committed to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by up to 25-percent by 2020 compared to 2000 levels.

However, emissions trading legislation was defeated in the Australian Senate last month, leaving the target in doubt.

Chemicals Found in Water

While I was at the Environmental working Group's website I just happened to stumble on this doozie of a summary of chemicals found in domestic water supplies.
Here it is;
Chemicals found in Water: Organochlorine Pesticides (OCs), Metals, Lead compounds, Arsenic compounds,Cadmium compounds, Phthalates, Volatile and semivolatile organic compounds (VOCs and SVOCs),Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), Perfluorochemicals (PFCs), Chromium compounds, Bisphenol A & BADGE, Mercury compounds, Substituted benzenes, Phenols, Perchlorate, Inorganic salts, Miscellaneous pesticides, Haloacetic acids, Halogenated benzenes, Short halogenated compounds,Alkanes, Petroleum distillates and process streams, Cresols, Unidentified or misc. family, Ethers, Nitrosamines,Brominated Fire Retardants, Trihalomethanes (THMs), Chlorinated dioxins & furans, Organophosphate Pesticides (OPs), Inorganic compounds, Zinc compounds, Amphibole-group minerals, Vanadium compounds,Titanium compounds, Thallium compounds, Molybdenum compounds, Lithium compounds, Cobalt compounds,Beryllium compounds, Antimony compounds, Sodium compounds, Strontium compounds, Silver compounds,Selenium compounds, Potassium compounds, Nitrate compounds, Nickel compounds, Manganese compounds,Magnesium compounds, Inorganic ions, Fluoride compounds, Copper compounds, Barium compounds,Aluminium compounds, Noble gas, Radioactive particles, Uranium compounds, Iron compounds, Calcium compounds, Ionizing radiation

I just love that one right in the middle of the list; "Unidentified or Misc family".

Cell Phone Awareness grows

As most of you know, the international jury is still 'out' on mobile phone usage and cancer. But now we hear that six companies are enforcing warning signs against excessive use being placed on the phones.
This website from the Environmental working group allows you to look up your phone and check its radiation rating, while this site - mine - tells you what I use on my phone. Does it work? I don't have brain cancer. What else can I say but it's very good insurance value as far as I'm concerned.

"Health agencies in six nations have issued warnings to limit cell phone use, including Switzerland, Germany, Israel, France, the U.K. and Finland. The warnings said children were particularly at risk because their skulls are thinner and less able to shield the brain from radiation.EWG says the current cell phone radiation standards, set by the FCC and based mainly on 1992 cell phone industry recommendations, are outdated and allow 20 times more radiation to penetrate the head than the rest of the body."

To Calcium Supplement or NOT to calcium supplement

After recent posts showing that by a 2:1 ratio, studies show that calcium has no effect on bone health, this Australian site is a real turnoff.

A Low Cost highly effective Exfoliant.

As an old surfer, I was at my local skin specialist last week having the latest crop of keratosis removed, when he gave me a great tip.

We buy all these expensive exfoliants for our skin, but he says that what is equally as good is good old alkaline bicarbonate of soda. Not only does it have the right consistency and pH for the job, it also soaks in.

Cassie tried it this morning and reports 'skin nice and smooth'. What more can you ask?
Footnote: Bicarb of Soda was the major cleanser used on the biggest woman in the world; the Statue of Liberty!

There but for the Grace of God...

Scientists have found a drinking water supply in India that has antibiotics in it.. stronger than a therapeutic dose!
And who did it?
"Enormous quantities of antibiotics are released into wastewater from drug factories that manufacture the bulk of the world's pharmaceutical antibiotics. The compounds contaminated nearby surface and ground water, exposing people and aquatic wildlife to the drugs. These levels of contamination are alarming for two reasons. First, they may adversely affect human health following exposure to contaminated water. The health effects of ongoing exposure to high concentrations of mixtures of pharmaceutical mixtures are largely unknown. This is especially true for a developing fetus, baby or child.Second, they generate conditions that may foster development of antibiotic resistant strains of pathogens. The authors conclude that "insufficient wastewater management in one of the world’s largest centers for bulk drug production leads to unprecedented drug contamination of surface, ground, and drinking water."
"They suggest that improved wastewater treatment could reduce contamination levels."

Duh-Oh!

Some good thoughts about electrolytes and water

This article was first published in the Straits Times, Singapore.

'Minerals, or electrolytes, do more work than you might think - they play the role of gatekeepers, directing the flow of water in and out of body cells. The balance of electrolytes is closely tied to the balance of water in the body as one affects the other," explained Ms Teo Kiok Seng, nutritionist at Nutrition Network Services.

'Very small changes in electrolyte levels in the various fluid compartments in our body cause water to move from one compartment to another," she said. With water being a major component of organs and tissues, electrolytes such as sodium, potassium and calcium are vital for numerous bodily functions.

Other than helping to maintain optimal heart, brain and muscle functions, these electrolytes are also involved in oxygen delivery and in regulating the body's pH levels, said Ms Jaclyn Reutens, a dietitian at Aptima Nutrition & Sports Consultants. The pH is a measurement of how acidic or alkaline a solution is.

'Hence, dehydration or over-hydration can result in electrolyte disturbances which can lead to life-threatening medical emergencies, such as irregular heartbeat," added Ms Reutens.

Water and electrolytes are lost throughout the day via urine, stools, sweat and breathing, and must be replenished by consuming the right kinds and amounts of food and beverages. Ms Teo recommended eating plenty of fruits and vegetables in addition to drinking water and other beverages.

'Fruit and vegetables are particularly good sources of water so make sure that you include them in your daily diet," she said. 'For example, water makes up 90 per cent of watermelon."

However, you should not count beverages such as coffee and alcoholic drinks as part of your daily fluid intake. This is because caffeine is diuretic - it promotes urination while reducing your urge to drink. Alcohol inhibits the action of the anti-diuretic hormone, which prevents too much water from being lost through urination, said Ms Teo.

To replenish electrolytes, quick fixes such as a cheese sandwich with wholemeal bread, a chicken sandwich with a banana smoothie or a sports drink can do the job, said Ms Reutens. Such replenishment is even more important after exercise, as additional water and electrolytes will be lost through sweat.' If you exercise, drink up to an extra 1litre of water. If you sweat heavily, take 750ml of sports drinks to replenish water and electrolyte loss," she advised.

Older people should also take extra care to keep themselves hydrated. This is because people become less sensitive to the sensation of thirst as they age. Their kidneys also function less well, said MsTeo.

'A simple way to check if you are drinking enough fluid is to check the colour of your urine," she said.'The more transparent it is, the more hydrated you are."

Ian: Some good points, especially the last one.

Grapes and Radiation

Ralph Moss, highly respected commentator on all bad things beginning with 'C;' has reported on the use of ar grape juice on rats exposed to radiation. Here's what he said:
"If you own a vineyard, this has been a very good week. A new study showed that people over 60 who consume a moderate amount of alcohol had less risk of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. In some categories, the risk reduction was almost 50 percent (Anstey 2009). Less well publicized, but also encouraging, was a recent study suggesting that dark-skinned grapes might help those undergoing radiation therapy (Ramos de Andrade 2009).

The Brazilian authors tested black grape juice as a protector against the ill effects of radiation in Wistar rats. Sixteen animals got varying degrees of whole body radiation. Half were given a placebo sweet water drink, while the other half was allowed to drink their fill of grape juice for one week before and two weeks radiation. There was significant liver weight loss in the placebo group, while in the grape juice group their livers stayed normal. Also, in the placebo group there were the typical abnormalities of the blood after exposure to ionizing radiation exposure, including early leucopenia and anemia. But the intake of grape juice "induced an increase in granulocyte percent count" (Ramos de Andrade 2009).

I realize the benefit was seen in albino rats, not people. But perhaps this is an acceptable compromise to those oncologists who are so concerned that an antioxidant supplements will undo the beneficial effects of radiation therapy. After all, what harm could they imagine in adding grape juice to one's diet, especially before or after receiving powerful radiation therapy?

Note: The Brazilian study used black skinned grape juice. I don't find any such product on the market in the US. But one can probably safely substitute a dark grape juice, such as those derived from Concord grapes (Vitis labrusca)."

Ian: Interesting that the sugary acidic liquid did nothing to protect the rats from radiation, while the alkaline-producing grapes did the best job.

Another great reason for Alkaline water; Believe It or Not—Your Unhealthy Mouth Can Kill You

Let’s face it—oral health is a sore subject for a lot of people. And if you have a hard time swallowing the thought of a routine dental cleaning—let alone the prospect of painful gum surgery, or an excruciating root canal—you’re not alone. In fact, you’ve probably been tempted more than once to just skip that dentist appointment altogether.

If so, consider yourself warned: There’s much more to your mouth’s health than meets the eye—and you might be surprised to learn just how deadly a set of “sick” gums can be.

Emerging research has shed a harsh light on the dangerous link between gum disease and your heart health. Recent studies have revealed that a shocking 84 percent of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) also have periodontal disease—and that this same condition significantly raises your risk of hypertension, heart attack, and more severe coronary lesions, too.

What’s more, evidence suggests that oral infections are capable of raising notorious inflammatory markers like C-reactive protein (CRP) and fibrinogen, both of which are major red flags for heart disease and atherosclerosis. Meanwhile, other studies show that half of patients with chronic periodontitis have Streptococcus mutans—the very same bacteria found in their dental plaque—lining the walls of their arteries, too.9 And if that wasn’t bad enough, periodontal disease also appears to be connected to high total cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and reduced levels of health-boosting HDL (or “good”) cholesterol.

It’s safe to say that all of this is more than enough reason never to miss another dentist appointment again… but what else can you do to keep your mouth (and your heart) healthy and free of pathogenic microorganisms? Luckily, quite a bit—in fact, at least two natural solutions are clinically proven to go a surprisingly long way in this fight.

Sugar, as we know, is acidic and there's no doubt about its ability to foment diesease in the mouth. One alternative for the sweet toothed is Xylitol, an expensive corn-based sugar substitute that, unlike real sugar, actually raises your mouth’s pH—reducing enamel etching acidity and decreasing both tooth decay and plaque formation.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is another useful supplement in the fight against gum disease, with studies revealing this natural molecule’s potency against bacteria and inflammation in cases of gingivitis and periodontitis. As a bonus, HA supplementation is also clinically proven to help more mundane oral health issues—such as canker sores and dry mouth.

Or, of course, you could take the path of least resistance; return to your natural alkaline state and change the way your body 'thinks' about the need for sweetness. And drinking alkaline water instead of carbonated sugardrinks is doing what your mouth wants; supplying an alkaline environment in the mouth.

I remember ten years ago my wife Cassie had chronic gingivitis. It disappeared after beginning alkaline ionised water and has never returned.

California: Alkaline Water Marketer's paradise

In a study released today that has proponents of alkaline water smiling, it was revealed that tap water in California has an average pH balance of 7.

Los Angeles, California – United States – August 25, 2009 – The body's optimum pH level is 7.365. A lower pH balance which some claim can be caused by the consumption of food and water will result in the body becoming too acidic and the immune system breaking down.

The study was done independently and no medical professionals have come forward either to endorse or refute its claims. It has been widely believed for over a decade now that the body's acidity level and how to adjust it could be the key to curing many of the fatal diseases that afflict human beings. Proponents of alkaline water and mineral supplements agree with this assumption but there is yet no concrete medical evidence to support it.

This is not the first time that California drinking water has been under fire for being unhealthy. In 1986, the toxic content of the drinking water in Los Angeles and Orange County caused the passing of Proposition 65, the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act. It requires the State of California to publish a list of chemicals that you might be exposed to that can cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive disorders.

Prop 65 doesn't ban any chemicals from manufacturing processes but it does require companies to post warnings on their products for the protection of the consumer. This was done in the hopes of limiting the number of contaminants that could be released into drinking water supplies. It is also widely considered the beginning of the bottled water trend in California.

Today there are 750 harmful chemicals on the Prop 65 list. The study results on pH released today suggest that the drinking water itself should be placed on it, regardless of its chemical content. “The acidity level is too high”, according to those who conducted the study, and “alkaline bottled water is a much healthier alternative” is a slogan that we'll most likely be hearing a lot more of in the near future.
