Chlorine: just a reminder about this nasty little addition to your water

If your tap water comes from a municipal or public water supply, you can be pretty sure that chlorine or chloramines (chlorine and ammonia) have been added to remove harmful bacteria from your water. The result? Water that's free from harmful bacteria, but loaded with dangerous chemicals, capable of many adverse health effects.

Chlorine and chloramines can have the following unpleasant, health-altering side effects:
Dry, itchy skin from showering
Dry, brittle hair from showering
Respiratory issues such as asthma (also from showering)
Excessive free-radical formation (from drinking)
Hardening of the arteries
Fatigue
Skin rashes caused by chloramines
Some studies have linked chlorine to cancer.

That's the bad news. The good news is that there is a simple way to remove chlorine from your water. Pour your glass from your tap. Leave it 30 minutes. Chlorine is a gas and it will leave the water if given a chance. It can't get out when it is in your water pipes, but you can small it in your shower. Think about this: you pour baby a lovely bath. You lower him/her into the bath. What is he/she breathing? Yep. You got it.
Here's another free and easy tip. Buy some (ascorbic acid) powder and throw it in your bath water. It will neutralise chlorine AND it's great for your skin.
Of course both tips don't work so well in a busy modern household and that's why I have a Sprite shower filter on both my shower and bath inlet tap.
