I receive news from all around the world about water, and naturally there are some reports that are bad news.. buta sense of proportion is definitely needed. Take this report about residents upset about discoloured drinking water.
"When Jo Turpin noticed the brown water in the toilets, she assumed it was related to the hot water heater that she recently replaced. Learning that it is actually a regional issue does not suprise the longtime resident, who has lived in her Parkview Drive home for nearly 22 years.
Her family has been purifying the water for nearly a decade, using a triple-filtration system because, she says, "My water always has a bad taste; it always tastes like chlorine." She says the chlorine is so potent that she can occasionally smell it while showering.
Prior to this week's brown water, Turpin had complained to the NJAWC several times regarding the chlorine smell. "I've been told it's safe, but I don't drink the tap water," she says, adding that her parents, who live in Short Hills and receive water from the same supply, do not have the issue.
One of Turpin's neighbors, who declined to give her name, says her mother-in-law noticed the water's strange color on Tuesday, but she didn't think much of it until later filling the bathtub to give her two-year-old son a bath.
"I had noticed it in the toilets, but didn't give it much thought," she says of the tinged water. "But then when you try to take a bath, it is not clear. I said 'I'm not putting him in this.'"
The water was not a dark brown; the color resembled that of toilet water that had been urinated in, she adds
Nearly a week later, the water is still brown."
